i am an obsessive reader. not so much having fingers perpetually in pages but i read everything and anything. every item on a receipt, every square inch of the ikea catalogue. but the star has to be my cereal box, every flap and corner of it. as a child it was a way of keeping myself at the table longer. as i skillfully fiddled my pen through toni's (the kellog's tiger!) treasure maze, palms full with frosted flakes, i dragged snack times pretending to be so very busy reading every important line printed on all sides of the box.

i am picking up my pages again. 6 full books of it. haha i just hope i manage to get through all eventually. i learnt that in the fall, it is the acid in leaves that burns them scarlet. amazing.

"only a child in ecstasy could hit off the youth and hilarity of it. for children are natural impressionists, taking the adjectives of music and knifing them close against the nouns of sight and touch. every child knows that colour sings and trees walk. but puberty is the end. they acquire the logic that is death to the spirit and life to what is called maturity"

the fall of new england. alistair cooke. letters from four seasons.
